This is something that I definitely want to make sure we get going this year. So, even though it's way too early to start talking about it, I want to do it anyways to make sure we're not rushing this stuff at the end of the year and leaving out potential categories that we'd like to have.
The thought is that we'll have at least a few week nomination period, then a few week voting period. I'm not sure of the exact timing, but I'd suspect nominations will run through the second half of December and the voting will run for the first half of January. That's just me thinking out loud, though, and definitely something that's subject to change.
So, what I'd like to do is come up with a list of categories that we'd like to give out awards for. Winners of these awards will have their win shown on their profile for a full year, until the next year's awards. I will probably compile a list in a thread that will hold all the winners of all previous years too, but we'll cross that bridge when we get there.

Site/general focused awards
- Member of the Year - Simply put, which member has contributed the most, overall to the site itself.
- Trader of the Year - This isn't necessarily the member who has traded the most, but who is a great trader. Members that always seem to go above and beyond, who are willing to trade in your favor just to help you out, or even trade for things they don't really need to get you a card you really need for your collection.
- Rookie of the Year - The best new member to the site. Obviously this year everyone would be new to the site, but I think if we saw a standout member who we're not all already familiar with from other sites, they might be a better choice than someone who we've all known, albeit on other sites, for quite some time.
- Most Generous - Again, not necessarily the one giving away the most cards, but someone who doesn't mind helping their fellow collector out any time.
- Thread of the Year - Who created a thread that had the biggest impact on the thread this year, not necessarily in terms of having the most replies, but the most impact on the site, or the collecting hobby in general? This could be anything from a show off a random card thread, to a super useful how-to article.
Collector focused awards
I'd really like for these nominations to come from threads that have been posted on SCA throughout the year rather than from folks who will wait until the award nomination process is starting to start posting things to get themselves nominated. I genuinely want to build a solid community of collectors here. I truly love to see other member's collections, and cards. One of my favorite things from TCC, and TCZ, was checking out the forums/sections on the site where folks were showing off their cards and their collections.- Card of the Year - Who obtained, and showed off here on SCA, the best card of the year?
- Best Team Collection - Again, the hope is that we start seeing some of these team collections popping up in the Hobby showcase forum, but who has the best overall team collection, in any sport?
- Best Player Collection - I have, what I consider to be, a lot of Tony Parker cards but I also guarantee there are folks out there with much better player collections than me. I'd really like to see them, but who has the best player collection on SCA?
- Best Set Collection - We all know how many set collectors there are here on SCA already, but who has the best set collection? Maybe you have a hard-to-obtain vintage baseball set, but maybe someone else has a modern rookie set where all the cards are graded PSA 9-10. Which is best? Our members can decide!
- Best Autograph Card
- Best Memorabilia Card
- Best Insert (Non-Auto/Mem) Card
- Best Vintage Card
