The Super Bowl halftime show for the last at least 25 years has been pretty bad. Sure there have been some decent exceptions mixed in there somewhere but the modern halftime show has the formula of being flashy with too many lighting effects, a ton of people moving, sometimes dancing and either rap or hip hop. Sometimes big name artists in those genres or regular pop, and sometimes obscure artists. I guess a lot of it comes down to the fact that the halftime performers are "not paid" for the performance per say, but rather they get the Super exposure that often increases record sales the next day and opens more opportunities for them, like tons of endorsements. Apparently halftime performers have never been paid, or technically are only paid the required union wages for rehearsals and the performance. The money is made after BECAUSE of the performance. I think it was last year or the year before when it was said that halftime performers are now required to pay for their performance? In the early days they had marching bands.
