Quoting posts in replies is one of the most used features on this site, or any forum really. So I wanted to take a minute to bring the multi-quote option to light.

Did you know you can quote multiple people at a time, all with just a few clicks? Also, while we're on the subject of quoting, did you know you can easily quote just a small section of a post instead of the entire thing?

Let's first look at how you can quote just a small portion of a post. If you highlight just a small section of a post, whether on a mobile device or a desktop, you'll get two options. You can either "Quote" or "Reply", as seen here.

Now, both of these will actually quote only that section, but clicking the "+Quote" will simply add that section to the multi-quote system. While "Reply" will quote it and take you straight to the editor to write your post. Using the multi-quote system, however, you can continue reading the thread just in case there are other things you want to quote and reply to in the same thread. You can even click on to the next page and the multi-quote system will still remember the post(s) you have quoted from the previous page.

So now let's say you're continuing on readying, and you find another post you want to quote, but you want to quote the entire post instead of just a snippet. Well, in that case you'd just need to click the "+Quote" link at the bottom of the post. Now that post will also be in the multi-quote system.

Then you continue on and find another snippet you want to quote, so you add that too, using the highlight method.

Now once you've read through all the posts and you've got everything you want to reply to in the multi-quote system, you'll go to the editor to post your reply. Once there, you'll notice there is now a button that says "Insert quotes...", as seen below. This button will only be visible if you have posts quoted in the multi-quote system.

Once you click on that "Insert quotes..." button, you'll get a popup that will show you a list of all the posts you have added to the multi-quote system. There you'll be able to re-order them, if you wish, or delete some that you've changed your mind on replying to.

When you've got the right posts listed, and in the order you like, simply press the "Quote messages" button and all the messages will be quoted, in the correct order, for you to begin replying to in your own post.

It really is a very simple system to use, especially once you get the hang of it. I use this highlight method of quoting partial posts almost daily because I find it to be more clear as to what, specifically, I'm replying to. Also, for quoting multiple posts, I feel like it makes my reply easier to read if there aren't a lot of full-post quotes listed in my reply. Instead, there may only be a few single lines.

So, give this a try next time you're reading through a thread and may want to reply to multiple messages. Just add them to the multi-quote system, keep on reading, and reply to them all at the end in one big post.

That'll do it for this edition of "Did You Know". As always, if you have any questions about this, or any other thing concerning the site, please feel free to shoot me a DM any time. Happy collecting y'all!
