Great poll and I'm glad you posted the definitions of each category which eliminated some of the choices I would have given because of what I assumed they were.
The closest categories that fit me were set collector and vintage collector. From the definitions, I could have chosen Old School collector as well but I thought Vintage covered that better.
When it comes to sets, I am an opportunistic set collector. If I have the key cards for older sets or the majority of cards for newer sets, I'll start a set. I don't care if it is junk era or high end vintage, I'll start a set if the opportnity arises. I collect all 4 major sports and the sets I am working on presently range from 1961 to 2006.
I was introduced to cards with 1965 Topps and Philadelphia Football and only took a short haitus from from cards from 1970-1972 and started up for good in 1973. I have always had a strong sense of nostalga even when I was in early grade school so the die was cast for my love of vintage at a very early age. I only buy collections and have not opened a pack since 1992 and don't have any shortage of cards post 1992. My brother says I am emotionally attatched to my cards and he is correct but I fully realize they are ONLY cards and will only buy if it is a really good deal. So many collectors get all hyped about the current hot thing and spend themselves into oblivion.
When it comes to sports cards follow the advice of Guns N' Roses and use a little............
