So this is a collection that I've never really shown off a whole lot. Probably not many folks know this PC even exists. There aren't a ton of cards in it, but there are a few pretty nice ones, including some really nice relics. They'll all be seen in time but I just pulled this thing back out of the closet, and grabbed a random card out of it.

This is the one it was...

2009 Donruss Classics Classic Singles Jerseys #14 Jim Brown /250

Here's another one I've had in the collection for quite some time, of another Browns running back (actually he was a fullback and linebacker). I actually picked this one up in a bonehead trade when I traded away my Joe Dimaggio auto, which I've been searching for to get back for years now, but I digress.

This still isn't a bad card to have, and makes a great addition to my Pro Football Hall of Fame collection.

That. Is. Sweet.

So is it a patch/auto of any HoF player?

Yes sir. Well, I'd like to have one of each eventually, but right now I'm trying to hunt down one of each player. My only requirements, for this PC, is that the piece has to be certified as game-used.

Nice cards!!!!! Marion Motley and Jim Brown! Pretty much the bridge from old school to modern day football. This got me interested if I have an actual Marion Motley football card or not. I'm thinking I don't. Otto Graham, yes. Lou Groza, yes, Paul Brown, yes. Marion Motley, I'm just not sure.

Jim Brown is probably my favorite collectible player ever even though he retired the year I began watching football. Physically he was decases before his time. The only two people I have ever stood in line to get an autograph from are Jim Brown and Pat Benatar> Yes, that is a very odd pairing, I admit. I don't think they have anythng in common except they both grew up in Long Island. And the only person I'd stand in line to get an autograph from these days is Yaroslava Mahuchikh and if anyone knows who she is without looking her up, I'll be highly impressed!

She sounds like a tennis star but knowing you, Id lean towards front woman for a band?

After I posted, I went and looked her up. LOL

You should not be that good looking and be able to jump that high! LOL Throw in her endearing personality and she is impossible not to root for. Breaking that 37 year old world record was just stunning. Plus the fact that she is from war torn Ukraine and what that must have meant to that country is really hard to comperhend.

One of my favorite comments I read when she broke the world record was "She just jumped over Giannis's head!". HA! Ha! Yeah, pretty much!

Here's another one for this week...I really can't remember where I got this one from but it's one of the favorites in the collection because 1) it's an old-school National Treasures card and 2) the "HOF" cut over the game-used pieces is a great addition to the HOF collection.

Wow! Great card! Interesting factoid about Rosey Brown's RC. He and Rosey Grier both have their RCs in the 120 card 1956 Topps set. Both are Giants and both cards look very similar. Throw in the fact both are named Rosey and that is like lightning striking twice!

Very cool tidbit of information, that I didn't know. Thank you!

Great thread and fantastic cards!

Thanks Kevin. This collection isn't as great as it once was because I, stupidly, traded/sold a lot of these cards away during my emotional breakdown, but I have a feeling it'll be making a comeback! I'm just glad I didn't get rid of a lot of the cards I consider to be the cornerstone of the collection. Plenty more to share still!

@Mike

I have done the same thing over the years in terms of trimming down, I look at it as tightening up on items that were most special and letting the rest go! It's all good, if a hobby gets overwhelming (and believe me, it sure has for me several times) then it's probably a good thing to clean out some.

Cheers!

Kevin

I would have never gotten rid of them if I was thinking clearly. The cards I treasure the most are my Tony Parker PC, my Vince Carter rookie PC, and my NFL HOF PC. I have very few cards in my collection, that don't belong in one of those three collections, that I wouldn't let go of. Off the top of my head is a Romo patch/auto (blind trade from a good friend), a Tim Duncan rookie card (freebie from @AndyDrummond if I'm not mistaken), and a Kobe Bryant relic. That might actually be the whole list. 🤣

A Hall of Fame collection can't be a real Hall of Fame collection without at least a couple Dallas Cowboys in the mix. Here's one I actually received in a FREE group break years ago, hosted by an old buddy of mine, Sam (aka WestCoastSkinsFan). As a Redskins fan, I'm sure he absolutely LOVED pulling this Cowboys hit for me.

Oh, and did I mention I also received an expired Tony Dorsett auto redemption in this same break? Not bad for a freebie, eh!? I ended up still getting a replacement for the expired redemption, too. A Marcus Allen auto.

I'm working on the same sort of collection. Some of the early Hall of Famers are really tough to find.

Indeed! My collection is very small now because I, stupidly, got rid of a lot of these cards when I was going through a rough patch recently. I do still have most of the really old-school stuff, though, which will slowly be shown off in this thread. Right now I'm pretty much doing what I did when I started this. I'm looking for the cheapest cards I can, that fit my requirements, starting with the most recent HOFers and working backwards. I have three incoming and will have more on the way soon. If I happen to stumble across a more expensive one that I can trade for, or get a good deal on, I'll do that too!

I aim for a certified autograph first, then patch or GU card as a second option. I collected through the mail starting in 1980, so I've got guys like Paul Brown and Tony Canadeo that way.
