This is something I started 12 years ago on TCZ. It was such a hit back then and I think it would be equally as popular here with this group of collectors. First, a little back-story on how this came to be on TCZ.

One evening I was sitting at home and just looking at all the piles of cards that I had and I wanted to clear some of them out to make room for, you guessed it, more cards. The problem was that a lot of those cards were cards I probably would've never been able to trade away. I didn't really have the time to put them all into a trade list anyways. I definitely wasn't about to try to list them all on eBay, or COMC, or anything like that. It probably wouldn't have been worth the effort for most of the base cards and low-end rookies/inserts I had.

So my idea was to just give them all away to folks who need them for their collections. I knew, though, that if I just posted a bunch of lots of cards that folks would all say they wanted them, even if they weren't for their own collections. I remembered an old thread on TCC and decided it would be a great thing to have on TCZ.

Pulling some of my cards out of the closet last night I realized that I'm in a similar position as I was back then. I have a lot of cards that need a new home (mostly base but some rookies/inserts too) and I'd like to get as many of those to you guys as I can, especially if you can use them for your PC. So, since this thread was such a huge hit on TCZ, I thought we should kick it off again here too.

How it works

If you want to participate, simply post in the thread with something that you need for your PC, that you think someone else might have sitting in a box somewhere. This might be a specific player, team, set, or anything else you can think of. Myself, and hopefully some others, will comb through our stacks of cards and, if we find anything from you list, we'll send it to you for free!

Here's the catch

By posting your needs in this thread, you're also agreeing that you're willing to look through your cards to try to "Pay it Forward" to someone else too, whether you receive something or not! It's not likely that you'll have something for everyone, and it's possible that nobody will have something for you, but this shouldn't be about ourselves anyways. It's about helping a fellow collector add to their PC.

Extra info

I recommend dropping a little note of some sort in the package as a reminder that the package is part of this "Pay it Forward".

If you receive a package because of this thread, please post in here what you got and who you got the package from so that we can keep up with who the members are who are helping others out.

I'll go first...

I collect ANY and all Tony Parker cards (base, inserts, rookies, relics, etc). Basically, if it's a Tony Parker card where he's depicted in a Spurs uniform, I collect that!

Also, not nearly as likely to be something just laying around but I'll post it anyways, I collect game-used and autos of NFL HOFers. I also collect rookie cards of Vince Carter.

I collect Braves cards but really do enjoy most the finding of oddities and off brand type memorabilia - really doesn't have to be trading cards only. I do especially collect those players I have had the pleasure of meeting in person - Hank Aaron, Chipper Jones, Freddie Freeman, Ronald Acuna, Ozzie Albies, Dansby Swanson, Austin Riley, Dale Murphy, John Smoltz, Marquis Grissom, Tom Glavine, Greg Maddux, Jeff Blauser, Steve Avery, Eddie Perez, Andruw Jones, Nick Markakis, Charlie Culberson, Luke Jackson and Greg McMichael.

I probably don't have any Braves memorabilia but I'll dig through my cards and see if I have any Braves cards to send your way.

Mike, just looking to participate in the thread really, and don't need regular cards of these guys so much. A funky insert or a strange off brand card, sure. And would be more than willing to dive into whatever I have to see if I can hit someone else's needs. Unfortunately I don't collect NFL or NBA so I won't be much help to you, though.. Carlton

Mike, I see your new note on sending "surprise" cards and am not sure how that works without posting a freebie which requires a confirmation. Maybe I'm missing something new here. Thanks

I just mean that they don't know what's in the package. I think when we did this before, about 90+% of the packages that were mailed out went as a surprise. Some folks would make sure the member could use the cards before sending, but others just mailed them out and let it be a surprise.

So you post a freebie, card or cards specified or not, to get the other's mailing address? Sorry to be dense, but want to be sure how to proceed, I do want to try and hit some needs. Thanks

Yes, that would be how I'd do it. Back when I ran this last time we didn't have freebies in the transaction manager so you'd just PM someone to get their address. This makes it much easier, and makes it easier to track, and keep track of who you've sent to.

I like this idea I don't really care for the "surprise" aspect as one may end up with dups (I have a lot of dup modern Cubs). Over the years, when I post a trade of Cubs I am looking for, I have had people just send me a card or two as a freebie. I have done the same to people looking for cards. I am primarily a vintage Cubs guy but have a few Bulls and Blackhawks. My modern Cubs I get via the Box Breaks on various sites and I have a friend who sends me his dup Cubs. I love oddball and have a lot of that also so unless there is a regional Chicago Cub or Bear oddball, I also don't need anything in return.
So Mike, afraid I can't help with Tony Parker. Calsp3 - Carlton - again, since I don't do modern have no help in that regard but do have a 75 Hostess Aaron in VG (no creases).

I know that Aaron card and do need it. He was traded back to Milwaukee for a final hurrah in 75 and the photo for the card is of him in a Braves uni but they "photoshopped" an M on his hat.
I have a bunch of vintage dupes, if you don't mind VGish cards - no creases - so if you have a Cubbie need list I will see if I can pay you back. Thanks

I will post it up and get in in the mail tomorrow. I do not have a list as I have probably all the main stream Cubs from 1948 on up. Thanks.

Hey Jim, you have this one? I have a 1961 Fleer 82 Jim "Hippo" Vaughn card for you if you may need. He was a Cubbie twirler back in the teens, won 20 games for y'all in five seasons.

Carlton, thanks for looking but I do have him. Appreciate it. Jim

Hey Jim I do have some random early 90s hockey cards available. Need any Blackhawks - some Upper Deck and/or Stadium Club I think. Just LMK
Carleton, I just checked my Blackhawks and, while they are onesies and twosies as I don't really try and trade for them, for some reason I have a run of 90-91 Upper Deck. Thanks. I appreciate it. BTW, card put in mail today.

Very cool Idea. Even TCDB (Trading Card Data Base) has a "Pay It Forward" thread. I have benefited from it a few times and sent out once maybe twice. Bad on me for not being a better giver. My problem has always been being able to find the stuff I think I have or had. Sometimes I've traded stuff away without updating my have lists.

I am mostly a Washington teams guy and have always been more vintage than modern. I'm getting to the point where I really should stop with the modern stuff and stick to vintage pre 1980. Many of the trends and tons of variants are not for me anymore. I am mostly baseball and football with some non-vintage I'm real picky about the non-sport and it is almost never the TCG things.

Oh and one of my projects I'm still trying to complete is my "Strive for '65" set build of the 1965 Topps Baseball.

I will see what Blackhawks I can find and put a few in the mail. Thanks !
