I get not wantling to trade for a $120 card when you can buy it for $30. But if everyone uses the same pricing source (in this case Beckett's OPG) then I'd have to trade it or trade for it at $120 with the value adjusted for condition.Yeah, that's definitely true. I'm not a vintage collector (yet, although you guys are pushing me) but in that case I'd just have to look at ones that look like they're closest to the quality of the card in question. Definitely not a perfect art, but for me it'd be a heck of a lot better than giving up $120 BV for a card I can buy for under $30 on eBay.
I saw your thread and, unfortunately, I don't have a hockey OPG. I only have basketball and baseball. I'll probably switch to the total access once my subscriptions are due again, but that doesn't happen for another three weeks.
Rotorob came through on the hockey pricing as you can see. Hopefully, we'll get the Artis Gilmore RC value from him as well. That could tell if Beckett's adjusted values for the 72-73s and not the 71-72s. Very strange if that occured as those two sets are like sister sets they are so similar.
Speaking of Hockey values it looks like those have skyrocketed in the last 4 years. Some of the older cards have tripled in value since my guide was published while all the other sports have pretty much remained stable. The 74-75 Topps Lanny McDonald went from $12 to $30, the 1981-82 Topps Dino Ciccereli RC went from $10 to $30, the Jari Kurri RC went from $8 to $25 and the 81-82 Topps Gretzky is now $50 and I think that wa $15 or $20. WOW.
I'm probably going to trade for the $30 Lanny McDoald RC at $30 even though I can buy it on EBAY for much less. That is where trade value comes in over sell price. You have to have a baseline on older raw cards to make trades. As long as everyine uses the same pricing source the trade will be fair.
