Hey all,

I always say you’re not building a set until you have the Mantle, but in this case, until you have the Dr. Anyway, my newest Iconic basketball set build is 72-73 Topps. Grabbed Dr. J a few months back and I’ve been slowly building up the commons since then. I have plenty of dupes to trade if anyone else happens to be doing this one, but lots of other stuff if you have any help. I’m looking for no creases, the sharper the better. Here’s the list:

1, 5, 8, 9, 10, 11, 20, 21, 23, 31, 32, 39, 41, 43, 44, 45, 47, 56, 60, 61, 71, 73, 75, 81, 88, 91, 92, 95, 100, 105, 110, 113, 121, 122, 128, 129, 145, 148, 154, 158, 159, 160 (unmarked), 161, 162, 163 (OC), 166, 167, 179, 180, 200, 208, 219, 225, 230, 235, 237, 244, 245, 246, 247, 248, 249, 250, 255, 258, 262, 263

Any help is appreciated.

Andy

I should be able to help you out on this set. It might be a few days as I have some mid level medical stuff going on but I'll definately get back to you.

Do you know about the print mark near Dr. J's elbow that tends to hurt their grading? The same vintage dealer who told me about the artificially short #591 in the 1966 Topps baseball set also told me about this matter. It is a small white spot on the yellow background near Dr. J's Shooting elbow. If I were not told about it, I'd never have noticed it. Both of mine have it and I think most do.

And I gotta say I REALLY miss the ABA!

I have two really nice Willis Reeds (#129) that you show needing. When I check these against my set, I'd still have a really nice one for trade even if one is an upgrade. I do have a lot of dups for this set that need to be meshed together and organized. I have several groups of dups that need to be organizedand once that occurs, I'll be in good shape tomake a nice trade.

Didn’t know that spot was common. If you’re working the set too I have a solid amount of dupes.

I made a mistake on which elbow that spot was near. It is near the elbow of his non shooting hand.

My 72-73 set is complete but I may spot a few upgrades when I check my recently aquired (meaning in the last 5 years) dups against my set. I really need to gather all these groups of 72-73s and organize and consolidate them to know exactly what dups I have for trade. I'll update you as I find cards for your need starting with that #129 Willis Reed.

I am pretty easy to trade with as far as what I'd like in return. We'll cross that bridge once I get going on this trade.

Great! Thanks for taking a look!

I was just checking your want list and you have 2 #91s listed. Can you tell me what the correct #s are in that sequence.

I'm in total agreement with you about not starting a set unless you have the Mantle, in my case "Mantle" is the generic term for biggest card in the set. I'm not starting a 79-80 Topps Hockey w/o the Gretzky, a 1976 footbball set w/o the Payton RC etc etc. Invariably you'll work the want list down to "one and done" except the "one" is worth a grand or two.

I’ll have to check this later tonight when I get back home, but thanks for pointing it out and I should have some time to finally work on some trades tomorrow.

I'm going to start on my long ovedue 1972-73 project in a couple of hours and should have some hits for you for sure. I assume the duplicate # on you want list is #90 or more likely either #92, 93 or 94.

I must say I was bummed I did not have a dup of the Atris Gilmore RC. Good thing you are getting that from another trader on this thread.

I've got 33 of your needs with a possibility of 2 more depending if you want a Phil Jackson RC and an unmarked ABA checklist with a bad corner. THe Jackson has a slight tack hole in the front that oddly does not go through the card. It looks like a speck of dust on the front of the card. I have 2 unmarked ABA checklists both with a upper right conrer damage. The better of the two would be a 50% er in trade and the Jackson would be a 33% er in trade.

I wish I could send pics but that is above my technical ability. I could actually front you those wo cards and if you don't want them you can send them back to me.

I still need to check the other cards against my set and then I'll post the specific card numbers. Hopefully I;ll get to that later today. If not, tomorrow.

Wow man, that’s awesome. Probably out on the Jackson but would be interested in the checklist. I have my daughter’s dance this morning but will be able to dig into some stuff about 1030PST. I have some 72-73, some of the 76-77 tall boys and a decent amount of full three panel 80-81s if anything might help you there.

Did I see a post from you sayig you had 1968, 1969 and 1970 Topps baseball dups or was it someone else? I have a want list for the 1968s and 2 small upgrade lists for the latter two. And I have the Ryan and Mantle for the 68s which is proof I do follow your set building rule. LOL

I am also working on some 70s and 80s hockey sets. I don't think I am working on any older basketball sets right now but I can always be tempted by basketball cards from the vintage era even if I don't need them for sets.

For me my set needs come first but I am very open to cards I would rather have than the ones I'm trading

I don’t have a ton of 68s unfortunately as I’ve been slowly doing that one myself, I do have a solid Kaline with a slight surface crease, but I may have some help for your 69 and 70 upgrades.

I don't seem to have an upgrade list for my 70 set. I usually put any cards I want to upgrade at the end of the set, facing the opposite way. But I don't seemto have done that on my 70 set.

I do have my 69 upgraee list and I do have a bigger 1967 upgrade list if you think you can help me on that set.

1969 Topps Upgrades 40 (Mayo Smith), 580 (Jim Northup), 616 (Don McMahon), 624 (NL Rookie Stars), 617 (George Stone).

Seem to be heavy on the Tigers on that list. Looking for similar card as you, nice corners, decent centering no crease.
